(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) - Goodwill has ventured east, to Gallatin Road, where a new full-service retail store has opened.  The store's grand opening celebration was Thursday, May 21.  Store manager, Cliff Hunter had  the ribbon cutting honor at 8:45 a.m.  The store, located at 613 Gallatin Road, is 9,000 square feet and caters to the growing and eclectic neighborhood.  In addition to the wide range of items usually carried in our stores, the east Nashville location has a maternity section and a large selection of scrubs for those who work in the medical field.

The east Nashville store is opening at a time when Goodwill's retail sales are on the rise, up about 10 percent over the first quarter of 2008.  "Goodwill's base of shoppers is growing as customers realize the choice, quality and value they find in our stores," says David Jenkins, the senior director of retail.  Opening a new store, and meeting our retail needs, would not be possible without the generosity of our donors.  "It is only thanks to the donors throughout the areas we serve that we're able to grow," says Jenkins.

The east Nashville store also allows Goodwill to continue to fulfill its mission, says Goodwill president and CEO, David Lifsey.  "We're able to hire new employees now.  We're finding these fine people through our Career Solutions group, which identified the newest members of the Goodwill team when they took part in our training programs."

Goodwill added 11 retail positions to its workforce with the opening of this new store.  The store is managed by Hunter, who transferred from Goodwill's Madison store. "This will bring the leadership and experience that new stores need to give our best to our customers," says Jenkins.

In addition to the retail store, Goodwill has added the convenience of a donation center onsite.  The east Nashville store and donation site are open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
