(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) The Goodwill Outlet Store in Nashville offers shoppers the ultimate shopping fix finding great items at low prices. The current store, located at Ninth and Herman streets is closing this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and is moving to its new larger location behind the Goodwill store at 780 Berry Road. The grand opening at the new site is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23. The store opens for business at 9:00 a.m.
The new Outlet Store will offer unique bargain-hunting opportunities. In the past, shoppers had to reach into and dig through large boxes to search for items. David Jenkins, the senior director of retail says, "The real plus at our new store will be that most product will come out on rolling tables. The current plan is to rotate out every table every two to three hours." The other big news is the Outlet Store will operate the same hours as all of Goodwill's retail stores, which means it will be open on Sundays. The new store is 12,500 square feet, three thousand square feet larger than the store at Ninth and Herman streets.
All items in the store, with the exception of TVs, furniture and other large items, will be sold by the pound. The more shoppers buy, the lower the price per pound on many items including clothing, toys and house wares. Check-out will also be faster and easier. Smaller purchases will be weighed on scales at the registers. If a shopper has a cart filled with items, the cart can be rolled onto large floor scales next to each register.
Goodwill's salvage and recycling operations will also move to the Berry Road site. Mary Stockett, continuous improvement manager, says this will be a permanent move for the 16 members of her group including dock and baling specialists. She says, "Our salvage operation is looking forward to moving into a facility that will give us more opportunity to expand recycling efforts."
The Outlet Store first opened in 2000 and shared space with Goodwill's Career Solutions group in the building at Ninth and Herman streets. The structure, completed in 1954, is being demolished to make room for a new Career Solutions building. To provide continuity of service for our clients during construction, Career Solutions has relocated to rented office space at 919 Eighth Avenue South in Nashville. Construction on the new building is slated for completion by mid 2010.
