(Nashville, Tenn) — It’s no longer a cliché when someone says they’re going green. Whether it’s recycling plastic bottles, composting or clearing the clutter at home and giving your gently-used items to Goodwill, it all does Mother Earth good.
Since Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee was founded more than 50 years ago, we have diverted millions of pounds of no-longer wanted items from landfills through the sale of those goods, raising millions in revenue and providing thousands people with employment & training. In 2009, Goodwill diverted almost 10,000 tons from landfills.
To make it easy to donate all the ‘stuff’ you no longer need, want or use, Goodwill is participating in numerous events and donation drives through spring and summer so you can give us the shirt off your back and we can give jobs and job training.
Earth Day is Saturday, April 17, at Centennial Park in Nashville. Bring the household items that no longer suit your taste, the clothes that are so last season, or your child has outgrown, and give it all to Goodwill. A Goodwill truck will be at the event so it’ll be easy and convenient for you to bring your bags of donations and to say ‘hello’ to our donations attendant. Â
Earth Day is a free event from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with food, music, arts and crafts and tips about recycling.Â
If you can’t make it to Earth Day, set aside time the following week to clear the clutter and clean the closets. Goodwill wants everyone in middle and west Tennessee to take part in our Community Donation Drive from Thursday, April 22 through Sunday, April 25. We offer more than 60 donation sites, including many that are drive-through, all located throughout the 46 counties we serve, and all offer the convenience of having an attendant available to help unload your vehicle.  Â
When you give to Goodwill, your donations do change lives. In 2009, donations allowed us to assist more than 11,000 Tennesseans prepare for the workforce and find jobs. Thanks to you, your donations keep communities strong socially, economically and environmentally. Our mission is to put people to work and you make it happen!
