In keeping with Goodwill’s efforts to grow causal partnerships with area businesses, and with the help of a former Goodwill client now working with SportClips, our clients can be assured they’ll look their best at job interviews. Nashville area SportClips provide free haircuts to Goodwill Career Solutions clients who have landed a job interview.
Laurie Guzman, the sales and marketing coordinator for SportClips, utilized the free job training services offered by the Spring Hill Career Solutions Center in 2009. She had more than 15 years of salon and spa service experience when her job at a Nashville salon was eliminated. “I walked into the Career Solutions center to ask about the services and discovered it was for anyone and that it’s a support system to discover new employment opportunities.”
Career Solutions counselor, George Carlson, helped Guzman revamp her resume to reflect her skills in sales and marketing. “He helped me redefine my goals and objectives so I could sell myself to potential employers.” Guzman landed a temporary position with a national restaurant chain. From there she met SportClips’ Nashville-area franchise developers who created her a position specifically for her.
Guzman knew she wanted to give back to Goodwill and proposed that SportClips provide free haircuts to Goodwill clients who were in the job market. “I felt compelled to help others transition during their job searches. We’re proud to have the opportunity to serve the community. It’s a great match.”
