What has Goodwill done with the $236,000 grant awarded by Microsoft earlier this year? The money is being used for the Digital Literacy program and provided funding to hire five trainers who travel to each of Goodwill's 16 Career Solutions Centers to work one-on-one with clients who need help navigating a computer. It's money well-spent.
Tracy Davis - Trainer
I have never seen so many older men, including railroad workers, farmers, and others who have done nothing but hard labor forever, so excited about a class. They signed up for one class and ended up staying all day. It was a beautiful thing to see and I was tickled to death. One of the gentlemen said he’s coming back every week until he knows it all like me!
A.J. Helms, Career Counselor - Springfield
Thank you, thank you for Skip (trainer). He is the best teacher and I'm glad he's assigned to Springfield. The first Job Readiness class went extremely well and the clients came away with a much greater understanding of what was taught. Now they understand their digital weaknesses and can work on those issues.
Violeta Menjivar - Career Counselor, Mt. View
We had an 86-year-old client take the digital literacy class today taught by Jennifer Evans. The client was thrilled when she made a 95 on her test, which I printed out so she could show her grandchildren that she is still intelligent. She is going to frame her certificate. She wants to learn more.
George Carlson - Good Prospects Manager
I asked a client how the digital literacy class went and he could not say enough about the class and Marshall (trainer). He told me the closest he ever came to a computer was when he did his intake for Career Solutions. He said he did not realize a computer could do so much and was thinking about buying one once he finds a job!
