Family.  It’s what drives Robert Guerard each day.  And every day he can be found working in Goodwill’s processing plant in Nashville where he hangs clothing.  It’s a job he enjoys not only because he challenges himself to reach and beat his production numbers, but because his hours at work give him the time he wants with his son, Alan.

“I worked in the food industry for many years,” says Guerard.  “But the hours weren’t good for me because I wanted to be home with my son when he’s home from school.  Kids need their parents.”

Alan attends the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville.  He has limited vision.  Both his parents are blind.  His dad attended Austin Peay University and graduated with a major in history and minor in special education.  “I had some sight until I was seven.  But our family isn’t much different than any other,” says Guerard.

In fact, if you plan to wager who’s going to throw more strikes when bowling, don’t bet against the Guerard family.  “Bowling is one of our favorite family activities and we go as often as we can.”  During the filming of the most recent Goodwill
What You Give Me commercials, Robert and Alan wowed the production crew with the number of strikes they threw.

“Goodwill gives me so much,” says Guerard.  “Not only do I have a job, but that job provides for me and my family.  I enjoy coming to work.  It’s good.  It’s very good.”
