Cordell

“Goodwill is my home,” say Cordell with his trademark smile.  He has a face you can’t forget because of his ear-to-ear grin.  And he will always remember your name.  Always.  No matter how often you shop at Goodwill’s outlet store where he’s a greeter.

“I’m proud to be working at Goodwill.  Goodwill has changed my life forever.  It’s my family and my home,” says Cordell.  “I love my coworkers and my friends, they’re my people.  I’m not going anywhere.  I’m here to stay.”

There’s a bit of Cordell in every corner of the outlet store, located on Berry Road in Nashville.  “I’m a multi-tasker,” he says, smiling.  “From the time I clock-in for work, when I and go to the parking lot and get the buggies, through the day when I wash the trash cans, move bins and greet the customers, I’m busy.”

His overwhelming love for his job earned Cordell Retail Employee of the Year kudos several years ago.  “I got the award because everybody loves me there.  So they chose me.  I’m a hard worker.”  He also enjoys seeing the photo of himself in the posters that can be found in many of our Goodwill’s stores.  “I like to brag about my picture on the wall!”

What does this over-achieving, always-smiling greeter do when he’s not on the job?  “When I’m not working I have three game systems and play Xbox 360.  And when I get paid I sometimes get new games for them.  Sometimes I like to watch TV.”

For Cordell, Goodwill means more than just having a job and being able to buy video games.  “Goodwill is respect.  My mom is proud of me for working at Goodwill.  And I wouldn’t be the man I am today.”
